What
is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis
or trance for therapy. It involves working with the
unconscious mind as well as the conscious mind to bring
about the change you want. Hypnosis is a natural state
of consciousness usually involving deep relaxation where
the attention is focussed in a different way from the
normal alert state. In this state you can access inner
resources that are not usually available. You can then
resolve problems and achieve integration. Hypnosis gives
you more control over your life.
What is it used for?
Hypnotherapy has many applications. It is particularly
useful if you have a specific issue such as a phobia,
a habit, or an addiction. It can also help to change
negative thought patterns, performance anxiety, or other
problems which hold you back from achieving your full
potential. All these issues arise when you consciously
want and intend to do something but find yourself unable
to break old habits and patterns.
Hypnotherapy can also help with physical health problems,
such as migraine, irritable bowel syndrome or asthma,
which are made worse by stress and anxiety. It can even
help with the control of pain.
A full list of situations where hypnotherapy can be
helpful would take many pages so here are just a few
to give you an idea of the range:
stopping smoking
overcoming phobias
healthy eating and weight
control
stress reduction
avoiding burnout
improving mood
improving relationships
reducing anxiety
controlling pain
childbirth
increasing confidence
post-traumatic stress
negative thinking
psycho-somatic illness
adjusting to loss or change
coping with serious illness
What happens in a session?
When you come to me for hypnotherapy,
we will start by talking through the issue that you
want to deal with and discuss whether hypnotherapy can
help. I will explain more about how hypnotherapy works
and you can find out what hypnosis feels like. You can
ask any questions and raise any concerns you have. Together
we will work out the best way to tackle your particular
issue.
How much will it cost?
My fee for each 50-minute session is £50.
In some circumstances I may be able to offer a discount.
